A historic district and cultural arts district in one, King William is one of San Antonio's most charming neighborhoods, with a wealth of history, stately homes, and a small-town feel not often found so close to a big city. Ranked the most beautiful historic neighborhood in Texas by Thrillist, locals and tourists agree that this neighborhood is a perfect blend of charm, beauty, and history all wrapped into one.
The King William Historic District, named in honor of King Wilhelm I, King of Prussia, became San Antonio's first designated historic district in 1968. Interestingly, the area is also known as "Sauerkraut Bend" because of the number of Germans who settled here in the 1840s.
The King William of today is a vibrant collection of dining and shopping options, meticulously restored homes, and an active community with a fascinating story to tell.
